Two flanges
The Couveton Pélican consists of two flanges joined together by a sturdy strip of fleece fabric that rests against the spine. Advantage: the entire top of the mat is made of water-repellent fabric, so rain simply runs off it.
Each flange opens at the back to allow the insertion of a 20 mm thick felt pad (red line in the photo). The planges are then fastened with Velcro.
Each flange also features vertical sleeves (green lines in the photo) that open onto the inside of the packsaddle pad. One or more strips of felt can then be inserted into the sleeves to create a variable thickness. This adjustment will fill the hollow (the saddle dip) so that the packsaddle rests on the saddle pad.
Différentes sizes
The Couveton Pélican is available in two sizes: S and M.
Dimensions of the Couveton Pélican size S: 76 cm in length (measured along the length of the animal) and 90 cm in width (from one side of the animal to the other).
Dimensions of the Couveton Pélican size M: 90 cm in length (along the length of the animal) and 105 cm in width (from one side of the animal to the other).

Tip to prevent slippage
Some animals (perhaps 1 in 20) have what is known as a ‘camel gait’. This means that they wiggle their hips with every step. As a result, the saddle pad shifts first to the right, then to the left, and eventually slides backwards.
The Couveton Pélican features a Velcro strap that is fastened around an arch on the packsaddle, thereby preventing it from slipping.
Difference between the Couveton Colibri and the Couveton Pélican
The Colibri saddle pad features two flanges, each containing a felt pad.
The Couveton Pélican also has two flanges padded with felt. However, in addition, each flange has, beneath the position of the packsaddle pads, several vertical sleeves into which one or more felt strips can be inserted. In this way, the thickness of the packsaddle pad can be adjusted to suit the shape of the animal’s back.
