Everything you need to know about the packsaddle pads invented by Randoline

Randoline manufactures a range of packsaddle pads for donkeys, ponies, mules and horses.

All our packsaddle pads are made from high-quality materials and fabrics that are strong and built to last.

We have given them the lovely name of Couveton.

Whilst the packsaddle is important, the packsaddle pad is just as crucial. It acts as the link between the animal’s back and the packsaddle’s pads. The thickness of the felt pads compensates for the difference in shape between the back and the packsaddle.

As Randoline packsaddles are mounted on articulated tracked pads, they themselves perform part of this adjustment work. Consequently, they require less felt thickness.

Since 2009, Randoline has developed several models of saddle pads, each with its own unique features and intended use.

• The Couveton Colibri packsaddle pad: This is designed for use under packsaddles from the Balissandre range or any other non-Randoline packsaddle model, such as cross-packsaddles. It consists of two flaps joined together by a strip of padded fabric. The fabric of this strip is water-repellent, so rain will run off it without soaking the felt inside. The flaps are fastened at the back with Velcro. A felt pad is inserted inside. It is available in two sizes: S and M.

• The Couveton Pélican packsaddle pad: This is the latest addition to the Randoline range and the first pack packsaddle pad with variable thickness. It can be used under packsaddles from the Balissandre range or under any other non-Randoline packsaddle model, such as cross packsaddles. It consists of two flaps joined together by a strip of padded fabric. The fabric of this strip is water-repellent, so rain will run off it without soaking the felt inside. The flaps are fastened at the back with Velcro. A horizontal felt pad is inserted into them. In addition, the Couveton Pélican features several vertical slots into which one or more strips of felt can be inserted, depending on the shape of the animal’s back. It is available in two sizes: S and M.

• The Couveton packsaddle pad for the Bastillon: As its name suggests, this packsaddlesaddle pad is specifically designed for the Bastillon packsaddle, to which it is attached by six wide Velcro straps. This feature gives the Bastillon remarkable stability. It consists of a pocket made of thick cotton into which a felt pad is inserted.

• The Couveton saddle pad designed specifically for the Balaïtous: This packsaddle pad is specially designed for the Balaïtous packaddle, to which it is attached with Velcro to prevent it from slipping. It consists of a pocket made of thick cotton into which a felt pad is inserted.

• The Couveton pack saddle pad designed specifically for the Bassador: This packsaddle pad is specially designed for the Bassador packsaddle, to which it is secured by three Velcro straps that prevent it from slipping. It consists of two flaps made from technical fabric, into which a felt pad is inserted.
